Words and Music Program July 14th

Please join us for a delightful afternoon of Words & Music with author Barbara Quick and violist Wayne Roden on Sunday, July 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Akin Free Library. You will be transported to the splendid and decadent world of 18th century Venice brought so beautifully to life in Barbara’s 2007 novel from HarperCollins, Vivaldi’s Virgins. Courtesy of The Book Cove, two of Barbara’s novels and a book of poems will be available for purchase and signing. The program is free but seating is limited. Please RSVP here.

Drawing on her theater training, Barbara reads in the first-person voice of Anna Maria dal Violin, foundling musician of the Ospedale della Pietà and favorite student of resident maestro and priest Antonio Vivaldi. The readings are interwoven with Wayne performing sections of Bach’s suites, creating an emotional tapestry that captures the spirit of the novel described by Jewish Book World as “historical fiction at its most alluring” and, by the Chicago Tribune, as “a genuine successor to Girl with a Pearl Earring.” If you love Venice, or if you’ve always wanted to go there, Words & Music will inform and inspire your future travel.
